This is a very balanced and chilling account of a police officer who also happened to be a psychopath, who teamed up with and dominated a little thug and killed almost a whole family. The fact that Antoinette Frank was so determined to become an officer, but was useless and corrupt almost from the beginning, is pretty scary.Chuck Hustmyre does a brilliant job of telling the story with suspense and pathos, building up our horror at the events as they unfold, taking us through the set-up, giving us a sense of dread from the very first line, where we meet Chau Vu huddled in a walk-in fridge listening to gunshots. We're taken through the creepiness of that night, from the seemingly normal exchanges between victims and murderers to the closing-in on a couple of killers. I don't want to give away too much about the circumstances, but the awful dawning of realisation about one of their own is great writing. The background to how this horrific woman came to get a badge will have you shaking your head in disbelief. I liked the bits of history connected to the New Orleans buildings in the story, and the characters are well-drawn.

I bought this story because I saw Franks being profiled on Investigation Discovery's Deadly Women. I thought the book did a very good job of showing how manipulative Franks could be (forging signatures, doctor shopping to get an acceptable psych evaluation and then forging it when that was not achievable, etc.) The author also did an interesting job in showing how there were so many ways the death of Ronald Williams and the members of the Vu family could have been avoided. Franks was given a bad psych evaluation more than three times and forged and falsified the majority of her police application but was still hired and then showed gross inability to do the job and was retained. The book also does a good job of telling the story from multiple perspectives, using the detectives interviews, newspaper reports, court transcripts, etc. to really flesh out the story. The story is truly fascinating. I just regret that it's non-fiction and not just the product of someone's crazy imagination.

While eventually you find out what happens, sometimes in the book it gave information that really had nothing to do with the case. Any book i read(no matter how long it drags ) i make sure to finish it. I would caution the writer to keep just to the facts in any book. This was a tragedy of the worst kind. It took me extra long to read this because it didn't keep my attention too much.

Could not put it down. Great read if you like true crime stories, and this one really happened. It is clear the author doesn't just have second hand knowledge of the events. He has the true spirit of a first responder. This is more than a dry police report, it is a character study, a look into the minds of law enforcers and criminals. I have liked all of his books.

....This is my first read from this genre. If you're into real life stories...that tells the story as it actually happened, no holds barred...then this is a good book to read...I started reading it with some trepidation, I admit...I thought... 'What kind of deviant mind really likes this stuff?'...Well, I'm no deviant by any means, I just love a book for one, that doesn't have many typos or errors...But I love to be entertained, and sometimes being entertained isn't about roses, fluffy clouds and everything pretty...sometimes being entertained is reading about the cruelties of the world; the happenings of real life; the way people treat each other; now that's deviant...that's our world....

I am an avid fan and reader of true crime, but Mr. Hustmyre's will not be on my list of true crime authors. First, this was one of the most dreadfully edited Kindle editions I have read. Paragraphs were off, at times the text changed from black to blue, words were dropped or added; it was so bad it read like an unedited first draft. Secondly, I knew as much, or as little, about Antoinette Frank upon completion as I did at the beginning. The style....well, there is no style. What should be intriguing is just plain dull and lackluster. Would not recommend.

I love true crime and I wanted a story with a different spin. This is it. I admit, at first I was not sure, but soon enough, couldn't put down my Kindle. I am going to read again as now I know all the characters and know the ending. I can only imagine the story is even more riveting the second time.I love how the book gives so much insight into the people and I found myself going through a series of emotions while reading this story, For every action, there is a reaction, this story demonstrates that fact--just hope those in power realize how a decision can change an innocent person's life.

This book was a good read. Fascinating story about a female cop gone bad. I had seen a documentary on her story and wanted to know more about her. The book didn’t answer all my questions about what led her to do what she did but it explained how evil she was as a person.
