This is a cute book which keeps the attention of my 5 year old son. My question is: In what universe is this a "ready to read" beginning reader? I taught first and third grades for 7 years an am now an assistant principal in elementary school. This book is chalk full of low-frequency sight words, academic vocabulary, and difficult vowel and consonant digraphs and blends. It's more of a second grade reading level for sure!
Son read this with less protest than usual. He thought the drawings were funny (feet or hands that were disproportional ect.) The level of reading was consistent with front of book. Sentences were short, and words were simple commonly used vocabulary.
My 3 year old loves anything about superheroes, so he has me read this for this over and over again. He isn't ready to read yet and can only do 3 letter blends for now. While there are some words that can be sounded out by kids learning to read, many words are sight words and other mores are more complicated blends. I wouldn't recommend this to kids jut learning to read, this is recommended for parents to read to kids to get them interested in reading and for more advanced readers, maybe 7 year olds.
My 4 year old, who LOVES Avengers, is not really into this book. Each page is a description of the character. Very simple, almost too simple. Not much fun to read and he just passes over it as an option. At least it doesn't take up much space on the shelf. Will probably go to goodwill eventually.
I have bought my son several of the marvel reader level 1 books and he loves them. the issue with this particular book is that it is not appropriately formatted to be read using the kindle app for the iPad. the text is normally sized but the illustrations are so small they are hardly visible. I had a similar issue with the iron man book. I'm not sure why they upload these books when the digital copy is so distorted. do they not check the content before they make it available? I think these books have great content and illustrations, but they need to fix the formatting issue.
I bought this for my kindle so my son could practice his new reading skills. He is still at the point that he is unsure of his reading ability. This book is formatted horribly on a regular kindle fire. The words cover the illustrations throughout the story and occasionally make it impossible to read words. Also the bottom inch or so of the book is not visible which means that sometimes the last part of the sentences are just not there at all. This really upset my kiddo, understandably. If you have a superhero fan, buy a physical copy of this book. Don't waste your time with the kindle version
My son is 5yrs old and hates to read books that he doesnt like! He is very much into super heros and loves these books! They do have a few difficult words but he seems to sound them out and keep reading! They keep him interested and he can read them over and over! GREAT Action Hero BOOKS FOR SURE
My 8 year old autistic grandson is struggling with reading. His new obsession is super heroes and these books have really peaked his interest in reading. I am excited and hope he will be reading by the end of the summer!!!
