About the Author
For many years R.N. PILLAI was a lawyer and the Station Director for All India Radio. Since retiring he has been writing and lecturing on Buddhism. His publications include Tour and Pilgrimage in India, a five-volume set on Theravada Buddhism, and a book on Tibetan culture. A devout Buddhist and meditation teacher, he has travelled widely in Europe and Asia, including China and is active in establishing a Buddhist temple and meditation center in Kerala, India.

We are doing a unit study on the Silk Road and part of that is to study the cultural influences that shaped the kingdoms and empires it traversed.This book offers just enough for kids to get a feel for the philosophies ascribed to the Buddha. Good illustrations and plenty of them. Some of the Buddha’s magical qualities as described are silly, but all in all, this was a worthwhile thing for the kids to be exposed to.For information on OTHER spiritual practices along the Silk Road, I recommend “The Silk Route†by John S Major with illustrations by Stephen Fieser. His book also deals well with Zoroastrianism, Islam, Nestorian Christians, and Greek Orthodoxy.
